Rethinking the way we photograph children in early childhood education and care.
Venue TBC
Warners Bay 2282 NSW
9-11am Thursday 31st July, 2025
In an increasingly digital world, it's easy to capture photographs of children at play. But what impact does that have on children?
In this workshop, we will explore the practicalities of taking photographs of children in care including: child safety implications, device and data management, and managing expectations from families. We will also look at what impact our frequent "snapping" has on children's play, with a focus on the play cycle and children's wellbeing and involvement.
What will we cover?
- The emergence of photography in early childhood settings
- The child safe challenges of photography in early childhood settings
- The impact of photography on children's play
- Considering alternatives and how we implement them
This session is for anyone working with children, and will encourage you to reflect deeply on current methods of documentation, and explore ways of making learning visible without compromising play, safety and our image of the child.
