"Sorry, but..." an Introduction

Sep 19, 2025

Over a decade ago I started seeing a counsellor for numerous personal reasons. One of the key things she taught me was that when you  (or someone else) apologises language matters. She explained how as soon as the word, ‘but’ is said or stated, then everything before is negated. It is really interesting to watch this occur once you are aware.

This blog is me being unapologetically me. This blog does not represent everything Inspired EC believes, there are too many people involved for that to happen. But it does represent the things that I have strong opinions on and I hope that they become conversations starters, prompts for reflection or even fodder for a big whinge. I DO NOT expect everyone to agree with me. I love a good debate. I am OK with agreeing to disagree.

My mentor and good friend Pennie Brownlee once said to me (now imagine this in a kiwi accent)

“Tash, sometimes you hear or come across something that doesn’t completely resonate with your current way of thinking, it may even piss you off. That doesn’t mean you should immediately reject it, maybe let it sit, just here ‘imagine Pen tapping the top back of her skull’ for a bit. Maybe some of it may sink in, maybe it won’t, but there is no harm in giving it some time.”

This is my aim for this blog, to maybe just sit on the top back of your skull for a little bit, to think about. Not necessarily agree, but just consider.

I would love people to comment, for, against…. Whatever.. Just be respectful of others opinions and agree to disagree if that is what it takes. Remember, these are MY ideas and opinions and I DO NOT expect everyone to agree, where would be the fun or learning in that?
